Healthy habits are essential to not just surviving, but thriving in life. Since February is the Month of Love, we’re encouraging you to work on self-love and self-care – the starting point to becoming the best version of yourself you can be.

 

Self-care is definitely a trending buzzword, but it’s so important to find ways to take care of your mind, body and soul – because all those parts make up who you are. Neglecting any one of them can impact your quality of life. Research has suggested that simple daily self-care practices can improve your overall sense of wellbeing.

 

These 3 simple growth areas will help you practice self-care for a healthier you:

 

LIVE

 

healthy habitsOur culture promotes the quest for productivity; the need to run around, be overly busy and get things done. But sometimes we forget to make time for the little moments where we can just enjoy life.  

 

For some, this might mean something as simple as pausing to breathe deeply and be silent for 5 to 10 minutes a day. A daily “stop and smell the roses” moment, if you will. For others, it could mean making time to do something new and exciting with your family.

 

Whatever “living” looks like to you, write it down and make time for it this year. Here are some suggestions.

 

Experience something new

So why not pick a couple of friends who are keen to try new things with you? Get recommendations from friends and family for coffee shops, eateries, child-friendly venues, markets, novelty activities and parks.

Do something daring

healthy habitsAs Elle Woods said in Legally Blonde, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.” A little drastic, we’ll admit. The point is, vigorous exercise, whatever that looks like to you, is guaranteed to make you feel good.

 

Can’t stand the thought of plodding aimlessly on a treadmill? No problem! Why not try a Zumba class, salsa or Pilates? You could try yoga on the beach or your local Parkrun.

 

Indoor rock climbing is also a great activity to work up a sweat, build strength and meet new people.

 

Me Time

self-careIt’s important to remember that self-care doesn’t mean you are being selfish. It just means you’re taking time to pause, re-calibrate and unwind.
